i was totally down with the first couple of records (in nc, if you were in the know, you pretty much had to ride for bf5). i went and saw you when you toured behind the first solo thing and spent the whole time yelling for underground, to no avail. it's been a steep descent since then fella. steep steep steep.

ben folds's increasingly sappy musical career, please to meet the left-for-dead musical career of weezer. y'all are gonna hit it off just fine.

this sounds like something that artemis from always sunny in philadelphia would be down with. total theater nerd garbage.



i can't believe i contributed two full view counts to this mind numbingly awful terd.

fuck yeah weezer are putting out a super special pinkerton reissue! hopefully rivers will follow it up with some more alone-style demo records and stop making music that's painfully terrible in its blandness and competing with snuggies.

why couldn't rivers have gone to harvard and just kinda given up on music after pinkerton came out. instead we have to endure getting shitted on more and more with every new release and have to put up with whatever childish novelty happens to run throughout the videos (muppets, internet memes) and stupid youtube mustache-faced attempts at viral relevance. ugh.

this is looking to be a pretty big deal in the pretty small world of chip tunes. boing boing picked it up and it;s looking to have some legs with a bunch of other nerd-centric sites.

all this gets me thinking back to the whole grey album fandango when everyone was mashing shit up with jay-z and then giving is a really terrible name. like a lot of people, i got a bit obsessed and downloaded every smashemup of that stuff that i could find, and it's been forever and a day since i've dusted off Jay-Zeezer (terrible name? check!).

i know it's not great, but its heart is in the right place. i'm actually kinda shocked that it's still hosted somewhere.

everyone has that one band that meant something really really deep to them. for some people it's nine inch nails, for others it's the dead. well, weezer was that band for me, and they were pretty much one of the only things that made middle school remotely tolerable. never in a million years would have convinced lil-me that rivers would be able to somehow take all of that away from me, and somehow in the process remove his presence from my teen years so as to make that stretch of time feel more traumatic in hindsight. crazy, right?

but, nowadays it's almost impossible to listen to blue or pinkerton without searching for clues as to where they went so terribly off the rails.





as far as i cans see, the only good that's come from rivers in the recent year or two has been the alone collections, which have been surprisingly good so far (and reasonably priced on vinyl!). they're absolutely worth your hard earned money, but if you're down with the band you've probably already given a listen or two. if not, get em over at insound, or anywhere else you happen to buy music at.

since we're a blog and allathat, i present for your enjoyment the three tracks (out of eight) from the kitchen tapes that have actually gotten legitimate release on the super-duper double disc blue album re-ish that came out a few years ago.

i wish i could really say that that two disc thing was worth the almost 30 dollar price tag, but basically hang on to your beat up CD/tape copes and dl the bonus material, unless you're a compulsive completest music jerk such as myself, in which case, amazon has a bunch of used copies on the extra cheep.
