embracing failare

Monday, August 24, 2009 by Chris

i've posted bout this guy in the past, but just to clearly reiterate: john kilduff is excellent. first found out about his warped take on over-enthusiastic accomplishment at the uw art dept vs starlight cinema "cracked television" event back in february, and then got a chance to see him do his thing live on stage not too long after that.

he was selling shirts he'd made with "embrace failare" written with what looked like house paint, and was gonna get one but they were all XL. good thing i just discovered his cafe press store and now have the desire to reproduce if only so i can put an ironic bib on my kid while i feed him strained carrots.

starlight cinema has been killing it all semester long. to those who are not in the know, starlight cinema used to show weird avant garde films, and somewhere along the way started showcasing out there performance art stuff from tons of well-known-in-their-field artist types. like, they're coming from the west coast and they stop at madison and then sell out a room at the guggenheim the next night. i've been wanting to post some stuff about starlight for a while, and lo and behold, tonight is their last night of doin stuff for the semester, and it's a damn fine evening:

Let’s Paint TV! LIVE!

i'm posting this hell of late and all, but if you are seeing this, and it's not 8 pm yet, get over to the play circle so you can see some of this utter nonsense in person:
