i can't believe i left this off the documentary list. adam curtis' century of the self was brought to my attention by the fine folks who put together the noda film festivals, and damn if it's not the documentary that i've watched more often than almost any other. this behemoth is four hours long, but afterward you'll have a different perception of the cultural landscape around you.

the whole thing is available for your viewing pleasure over at google video and i cannot urge people firmly enough to invest an afternoon or four in this thing.
